So I was robbed yesterday. Before you have a heart attack (mom) don´t worry because this story is really funny. We live with 4 girls in a house and so each of us has a laundry day during lunch because there isn´t space on the line for 4 of us to do laundry on P day. So I was washing my Monday and had left some things out on the line. Yesterday morning some lady came up to our window and was talking to us about 2 "muchachos that were up to no good" and how we needed to be careful. We made sure that the DVD player wasn´t near any of the windows and the same with our money and then didn´t think more about it. All of our windows and our door have bars on them so no one can really break in to the house but occassionally if you have stuff near and open window they can reach in and grab it. Anyway I went to shower and needed to grab my towel from where it was drying on our barred in patio. When I went to check I found nothing but a clipped line. haha. They stole my towel and sheets! What scoundrels. These are really hard core thieves. Haha. Of all the things to take...they took my sheets and towel. Jokes on them because those are a few years old and starting to wear. I had a real good laugh about that one and we bought some new stuff today.
This week was crazy as always! We were able to have a devotional with President Douglas on Sunday that the ward mission leader set up. We invited to entire world and luckily a lot of members supported it. We ended up having around 65 people there and the elders received some references from it. We really are blessed with a pretty good mission leader. Even if the rest of the ward is still learning, he is awesome. He arranges family home evenings in members homes for us, set up this devotional, calls to see how investigators are doing...in this country he is gold.
The rest of the week was pretty usual. We have had some really cool lessons with people. One was with a less active, Rafaelina, that we found this week. She has a really strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. We were visiting with her and her mom who is not a member. We asked Rafaelina to explain what the Book of Mormon is to her mom and she did wonderfully. Then she didn´t stop there. She talked about her testimony of the book and how it can change people´s lives. She attended seminary and was quite the active member a few years ago. Then the meeting time changed, she got a job on Sunday, and here we are. It´s sad to watch people put these little unimportant things in front of the gospel.
We´ve had some cool experiences just in the streets this past week too. We have a habit of talking to every single person that we see. Not always sharing a message but saying hello as we pass, etc. This week we had 3 different people ask US about the church and say that they wanted to learn more. We have been saying hello to them for awhile now because we always pass their houses walking and they each asked what we do walking past every day. We told them that we would gladly help them learn more. We also had another contact with a ruta driver yesterday. We were late for a lesson so we took a little car and the ride was really only 3 minutes or so but right before we were getting out he asked us if we were missionaries. Apparently he has met with missionaries before and wants to learn more. The Lord really does put the people in our path. All we have to do is make sure that we open our mouths!
I´ve saved the best for last. On Thursday last week we had the opportunity to translate for Jean A Stevens, the 1st counselor in the general primary presidency. Yup. You read that right. It was awesome. She had a translator for English to Spanish and then we helped with the questions and comments translating Spanish to English for her. She is very sweet and humble. She welcomed us with a big hug and said we are setting an example for the Primary kids all around the world as they see us and hear our stories. It was a little harder to translate that I thought but we didn´t make any huge mistakes. When you speak another language your brain literally switches into that language. When I hear Spanish it makes sense because my brain is in Spanish just like when I hear and speak English. So to hear Spanish and try and speak English is a little weird but kind of a fun challenge. Sister Stevens talked to everyone down in the audience close to their level because she said she feels werid up in the front. She called me down at one part to sing a new primary song with her in SPanish. She had heard me sing the opening song and said my voice was amazing. It was funny though because I don´t know that song. So she put her arm around me and I pretended to sing in Spanish as I just made up a tune because I had NEVER heard that song before in my life. It was hilarious. It´s a good thing that I just really don´t ever get embarrassed.
At the end Sister Stevens shared her testimony in Spanish. It was awesome. The spirit was so strong as she testified in some language that isn´t her own.
Well everyone, the Lord loves us! We are living the plan of happiness and I could not be more content. I love my mission and I love you all! Pray for the experiences to share the gospel and then more importantly OPEN YOUR MOUTH! You have the promise that it will be filled with what to say. Talk with others. Help them find this happiness too.
