Well everyone, for once I think I am literally at a fault for words this week. It has been so completely ordinary that I am not sure what to share with all of you! We have been working hard as always. Haven´t seen any giant miracles yet but that just means that the Lord is trying our faith first. You can always ben assured that when you are having a little harder time it is because something great is about to happen next.
Right now we have a really small teaching pool with a grand total of 4 investigators. Luckily there are so many less actives in the area that we are able to keep ourselves a little occupied teaching. Otherwise we find service to do for the members and try to help them get excited to do the work. We are starting to receive a few more references so I know that in a little time we will be so overwhelmed with appointments and we won´t be able to schedule all of the baptisms that are going to take place! (It´s always good to have faith right?)
Aminadia had a baptismal date set for the 25th of this month. This is her 4th baptismal date. Last week everytime we stopped by and called she was "busy." Then she politely told us that she will come to church when she is ready. We´re still not sure exactly what happened. I think it is just satan working extra hard. Every time she gets close to a baptismal date she tends to back away and close herself off. I´m sure though that she will be able to make the next one we set. For now we are just giving her a little bit of space and trying to send members over to her house in our place.
Another one of our investigators, Steven, was progressing so well towards his date for the 8th of February. He is in his 20´s and has a lot of desire to learn about the Savior and His gospel. Unfortunately he just started classes again for the semester and in order to finish the university faster he has to take classes on Sunday morning and can´t come to church. We will keep teaching him and I´m sure that he will be able to get baptized this summer when he can come to church again.
Amaury is still going strong for his date on the 25th. Last week he invited a less active to come to church with him and then later in the week he said that they had been reading the Book of Mormon together. There is nothing better than an investigator helping with missionary work. He really has a special spirit. Satan has been working with him too though. Every time we go to his house to teach, something crazy happens. The last lesson we had with him was interrupted at least 10 times from people dropping by to say hello or asking to record something. He is a sound mixer and does recordings for singers and bands in his living room. It´s actually kind of funny because he just lives in this little 2 room shack but he has a super nice computer and recording equipment in one of the rooms. Who would have thought? I have faith though that he will keep progressing and be able to make this first step into the kingdom of God in a couple weeks.
The work continues here in the Dominican Republic! I have a goal to read the Book of Mormon in Spanish this transfer. It has been such a great opportunity to feel of the spirit of that book once again. I invite you all to make it a part of your daily routine as well. I love it here and love being able to teach other people about the Savior and His love. I know that He has a plan for us and that we just need to be patient and have faith. If we can do that and then move forward with obedience and dedication, we can see great miracles in this world.
Have a happy week!
Hermana Ewell
