After so many crazy weeks, I´ve got to admit that this one was a little bit ordinary. All of our progressing investigators are members now and so we get to start the great adventure of finding again right now. We always talk with everyone we see to try and keep up our teaching pool but when you start running out of people to teach is when it gets interesting (and a lot more necessary to find). We have had some very interesting appointments this week. One lady said that she writes songs about Jesus and every time we tried to start talking she would say, "That reminds me of a song I wrote" and then she would proceed to sing the entire song to us. It was really hard not to laugh to be honest. She had one about children conversing with angels which was a gem as well as one about "muchachos que aman la internet" kids that love the internet more than God.
We also taught a family about the 10 commandments this week and then finished and invited them to live them. They said yes. Afterward we invited them to come to church on Sunday and they told us they were going to go on a day trip. I couldn´t help but laugh in that one too and I pointed out that they had just committed to live the 10 commandments which include "no other Gods before me" and "keep the sabbath day holy." They said that they would start living them later. The mission really puts things into perspective and makes you realize that sometimes we say the same thing through our actions. Even though it sounded to silly, unfortunately we tend to do that with the Lord a lot.
We were able to contact two really awesome families. One lives next to the Jehovah´s Witness temple and they are also meeting with them. In the first lesson the lady told us her mom had died when she was young. We started talking about how we have been revealed the Lord´s plan of salvation through prophets today. She was very interested in the idea of a prophet and in the second lesson she had a lot of good questions. I am excited to see what will happen with them.
The other family had plenty of amazing questions when we contacted them. Do we have a prophet? Who is he? Do we believe in the trinity? Do we believe there is only heaven and hell after this life? We answered each one simply and they agreed with each answer. They kindly asked us not to return for a little while because they are meeting with 3 other churches right now and their time is stretched thin. We decided to respect that but not to forget about them. They are Jimmy´s neighbors and he invited them to his baptism so we´re pretty sure that through that connection we will eventually be able to teach them a little more.
All of our converts are still doing wonderfully. Carla and Ysmenia both received callings on Sunday. Secretary in the Young Women´s and 2nd Counselor in the Relief Society. It was cute because afterward we stopped by their house and Ysmenia told us, "I feel so honored to have so much trust from the Lord with so little time in His church. I just have two questions...what is a calling? and what is the relief society?" haha. We can´t teach her things fast enough! We explained that the hour with all the women is called relief society and a little more about what it actually is apart from just an hour at church. Then we explained what a calling means. That was in our plans to teach in these weeks coming up...the ward just jumped on it so fast that we had to do some catch up. I couldn´t be happier.
We had an interesting lesson this week with the daughter of an elderly member of our ward. We were visiting the member and her daughter came in and asked if we could teach her a little bit. She said that she found it really odd that her mom never talks about the church and has never tried to convert her family. She said that it almost pained her and was actually a little skeptical about a church that someone wants to keep to themselves. Like it´s a conspiracy or something. We explained that maybe her mom just has never known how to share her beliefs or was afraid of the rejection. Either way we assured her that the missionaries could pass by her house. It is the elder´s area and so they are going to start teaching her and her husband this week.
It was a good reminder to me that we should never be afraid to share our religion with others. Especially those that are close to us! They should be the first people that we seek out. Heaven isn´t heaven without our family there. If there is someone in your life that does not know what you believe or who hasn´t received and invitation from you to find out more...invite them to do so! Talk with them! Share this wonderful treasure with those around you! Not only will you and them receive such wonderful blessings but the missionaries will love you as well. :)
I love my mission and I love the gospel! I hope that you are all doing well! Spread the love this week.
